John (Joao, in Portuguese) is an extraordinary psychic medium, but is sometimes referred to as a shaman. He has been working since 1957 as a healer. Extraordinary miracles occur around him when he allows benevolent, highly-evolved spirits, (aka disembodied entities aka light beings), to incorporate in his body and perform healing through him. Oprah featured his work on a 1 hour special November, 17, 2010.

Since 2001, Emma Bragdon has taken small groups to visit John of God in Brazil 4-5 times a year. She is closely affiliated with John’s work as a “daughter of the house”, has a profound understanding of the underlying philosophy: Spiritism and Spiritualism, and is recognized by John of God as a well-developed medium. She has been asked to work in the spiritual intervention/ surgery room in Brazil and at events when John is in the USA.On this trip in Brazil Emma personally introduces you to John of God, and is your advocate for you as you work with him, making sure you understand what his advice to you entails. In your two week stay you have 12 opportunities to meet with John directly. He will give you guidance about what resources the Casa has to offer you in your healing and spiritual growth. John says, “I do not heal, God is the One who heals”. So, your being at the Casa with John will be a journey into a deeper relationship with what is most sacred to you, whether you call that “God” or you experience the Divine in some other way. All are welcome–from any culture or religious tradition, people of all ages, even babies.
How the Trip is Organized
Group members fly into Brasilia where they are met. From there they go by van to John’s sanctuary, called “The Casa de Dom Inacio” (The House of St. Ignatius of Loyola). The trip fee covers your room and board in a hotel near the Casa that serves delicious food, is quiet and comfortable, and guidance so that your trip is safe–and you understand how to make use of what is offered at the Casa through John of God.
Emma Bragdon is a unique guide at the Casa as she has studied Spiritism extensively, written books (including a medical textbook) on Spiritism, and made documentary films about John of God and Spiritist healing. She shares about her wide-ranging, exciting trips to Brazil looking into Spiritism, offers personal coaching to facilitate your getting what you need from this way of healing, and leads interesting discussion groups on mediumship and spiritual healing.
Emma can help you plan one or more sessions with an excellent dentist who works in Abadiania, as well. He charges one quarter to one third the rate charged in the USA. We end the trip with a meal at a lovely restaurant in Brasilia, and a bit of sightseeing in Brasilia just before leaving. Consult the itinerary page for details.
Why Go?
The sanctuary where John works, The Casa de Dom Inacio, is an outstanding place for healing. Extraordinary phenomena take place –people make quantum leaps in their spiritual evolution and are cleared of negative thinking and destructive behavior patterns. What catalyzes these leaps? Sometimes it is the phenomena of seeing John incorporate an Entity, or doing physical surgery while he is an Entity… simply witnessing the generosity and love and compassion that is ever present…or experiencing one’s own interaction with “the good spirits” that are at the Casa. Sometimes the catalyst is our own quiet meditation and prayer, and receiving support and inspiration during meditation, practicing forgiveness, and becoming more present and joyful.
Here is a list of reasons individuals have as reasons to come to the Casa:
- Physical problems–such as cancer, arthritis, Hepatitis, and all manner of physical problems
- Emotional problems–such as depression, anxiety, addiction, etc.
- Relationship issues–sorting out problems one has with co-workers, family members, and friends
- Evaluating how you want to express your spirituality–
- Understanding more about spiritual healing, (especially important for medical professionals and healers)
- Getting aligned with your true mission in life
- John is a medical intuitive. He can see what a person is suffering from and what kind of treatment they need–just by looking at their photograph, of seeing them for a few seconds.
- At the request of a visitor he sometimes does physical surgery. Those operated on experience no pain, little bleeding, no infection, and no complications. Blessed water replaces antibiotics. Spiritual anesthesia replaces drugs used in conventional medicine.
- Psychic surgery is done through prayer. The energy field is opened so the seeds of illness can be addressed.
- Herbal remedies transmit the unique subtle energies each person needs in their healing.
- It is strongly suggested that each person drink alot of Blessed Water/Holy Water at the Casa in order to purify and avoid disease.
- The sacred waterfall brings a purification, clearing one’s ability to let go of what is no longer needed and acquire the strength for one’s soul journey
- Benevolent entities are very present at the Casa. One feels one is receiving healing throughout the Casa, and even after the trip
- The meditation and prayer room is a place where people receive clarity, peace of mind, inspiration and physical healing.
- The Crystal baths, where one is bathed in light being pulsed through special crystals, is another place one experiences healing and remission of pain.
- The community is ecumenical. All are welcome.
- The presence of God is palpable.
- One realizes that healing the spirit is essential to optimal wellness and health.

Your Guide
To get the most out of your trip to see John of God, it is wise to go with a guide who is familiar with John of God and the ways of his sanctuary and his culture. Following the protocols of the sanctuary is vital to your healing process, and is appropriate—as we are honored guests, enjoying the hospitality. John of God only speaks Portuguese, and his advice is sometimes not clear to people coming for the first time to consult with him.
I’ve been fortunate to have traveled many parts of the world and had a lifetime of wonderful experiences, but Brazil and John of God blew all the others away. Emma was a knowledgeable and caring guide. My Brazilian experience turned out to be an eye, heart, and soul-opening experience.
— Tony Bonnett, businessman
Emma Bragdon, PhD has been taking people to visit John of God since 2001, as well as researching spiritual healing in Brazil.
I not only felt the energy helping to clear my physical pain, but my connection to guidance has dramatically improved…. Emma is well respected in Abadiania and I felt that our group of 9 had positive experiences that I am certain would not have been available if Emma had not been guiding us.”
— Laura Davidson, healer
She published two books about John of God and contemporary Brazilian spiritualist healing centers. Both books are immensely helpful for people preparing for their journey to visit John of God. She has also produced two documentary films, one on John of God and another on Spiritism. Emma has a reputation for bringing small groups, and offering an in-depth experience. She is uniquely qualified to be your advocate. Read Bio. She is available for private tours, and special community groups.
Casa de Dom Inácio Community
It is not unusual now to see travelers from the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Japan, South Africa, and Canada assembling alongside Brazilians to see John of God. The community of people who appreciate the Casa de Dom Inacio stretches far and wide. Visiting doctors, trained in conventional medicine, are invited to stand near John as he does surgery—and sometimes assist in the healings. The work at the Casa de Dom Inácio de Loyola, named after the man who founded the Jesuit faith, is a community effort. There are over 250 people, all mediums, who volunteer their services to support the work of John of God. All of these people, many of whom are proprietors of the local Inns, have their own story of healing to tell. Spiritists offer their compassion and kindness to all coming to the Casa, making it a welcoming and safe place to visit for people of all faiths.
